My original thoughts with these fabrics, was something involving waves. I kept playing with different designs and just didn't like any of them. I finally decided that what I really wanted to do was highlight the gorgeous fabrics. Simple does that best sometimes.
I used a couple additional blocks and solids to make an interesting back as well. I ended up doing pebble quilting, just felt like it went with the design really well. I used white thread on the front and a variegated pink on the back. I love the back.
And my favorite block. Love how the mermaids in pink seem to be swimming around the one in yellow.
I ended up being very happy with how it turned. Hopefully, the momma and baby will love it, too. Finished size was about 45 x 60.

That momma would be CRAZY not to love it. :) And I'm glad you pointed out that block. I didn't notice it the other night, but I agree -- I love how it looks like the girls are swimming around the mermaid in the center! Now if I could just get my own mermaid quilt finished. I have all the blocks, just need to add sashing and stitch it up!
that one block is the one i noticed right away when i was looking at the quilt. it is gorgeous. i love the quilting you did on it.
Lovely job. It looks just gorgeous.
Absolutely adorable! I need to give that pepple quilting a try.. I saw a video on it a while back and love the look. You are correct.. it was the perfect quilting for this quilt.
So pretty...that quilting must have taken forever!!!
This is so cute! Your pebble quilting is amazing and I just love how you pieced the back.
Love it. And yes, that pebble quilting is gorgeous and on my list of things to try. Your friend is a lucky one...
Angie - am loving this quilt, and also wanted to say on the below Dinosaur quilt that the back is just as stunning! love the freeness in it. I have seen lots of vintage fabrics out here in Australia, the work you did with the cowboys really looks great on the dark grey and suits the american theme. Not that I know lots about quilting, but always an admirer.
Momma and baby girl do love this quilt!!!!! When it arrived at the house I was blown away by Angie's creation and talent. When I first met Angie she said she liked to quilt and needed more time to invest in quilting. I am amazed at her vision and the finished product. She told me to use the quilt, but it is so hard to bring myself to let baby girl Catherine touch it. I am slowly making progress with this. This is my most favorite and treasured baby gift! Thank you so much. I am truly grateful.
